Central control systems of very large industrial systems that require extensive segmentation with no outside access of any kind
. From a security perspective, we are concerned with where this information is being stored and how it is being used
. Heating and air systems - must be integrated with the fire alarm system to shut off in case of fire; also a DoS risk because if shut down and too hot for equipment and people
. Small form factor chip that runs multiple components all in one - any upgrades generally require replacing the entire chip
. Industrial equipment or cars typically use these in critical processes - does not wait for any other processes - think about the anti-lock breaking system on a car - highly sensitive to security
. Because of the complexities, the firmware is sophisticated but can be a security concern - such as images that were scanned, faxes sent, things printed - they are in memory
. Connected back to centralized recorder - if someone could gain access to these IP based systems, they could watch you - be careful
. Given the importance, even though the firmware is sophisticated, they could be a concern
. Embedded computers could be accessed that could take over control of the car, disengage systems, shut it down, etc.
. Unmanned aerial vehicles - if taken over, could cause it to fall out of the sky and be a danger to people on the ground
